How do I wear my Khalique scarf?
Our scarf and shawl designs can be worn in numerous ways. Scarves can both be tied at the neck, worn open or worn draped over the shoulders as a shawl. Wider scarves work beautifully worn draped over shoulders whilst narrow scarves work perfectly knotted at the neck. Our scarves are produced using the softest cashmere, buttery soft nappa leather and suede, meaning they knot and drape beautifully.
Are there particular scarves designed for men or women?
We feel people should wear whichever scarves they choose, however there are some designs such as our capes and ponchos that have been designed with the female form in mind. If you are looking to buy a gift for a man, please review our, Gifts for Him suggestions. If you are looking to buy a gift for a woman, please review our Gifts for Her suggestions. Many of our scarf designs are unisex and can be worn and enjoyed by everyone.
How do I care for my scarf?
Your shawl, scarf or cape will be delivered carefully folded in a rigid box. When you are not wearing your scarf or shawl, we recommend that you fold it carefully and return it to this box. Do not place other items on top of a folded Khalique scarf as this may result in creasing to the leather or suede. Do not expose your scarf to excessive water. To remove wrinkles from your scarf, use an iron on a low setting. Place a cloth or brown paper bag between the iron and the scarf. Gently and firmly use smooth strokes along the length of the scarf. Leather, suede and cashmere scarves and shawls should be professionally cleaned by a service specialising in leathers. Leather and suede designs will age gracefully as you use them.
What are your scarves and cushions made of?
Khalique products are made from the finest materials; these include leather, suede and cashmere. All leather and suede used by Khalique is real Italian leather. Details of the material used in each item is displayed on the product page. A glossary of terms is below. If you have any queries about the materiality of our designs please contact us at email@example.com
Our nappa leather is derived from lambskins and is one of the supplest leathers available - famed for its soft handle. This buttery soft leather has a smooth and luxurious feel. Nappa leather will become softer and more beautiful with age.
Suede is a type of leather made from the underside of the hide; it is softer and suppler than traditional leather. Suede drapes beautifully and is suited to scarves, shawls and cushions. Where cushion designs use soft woven suede, the suede is strengthened with a backing fabric to ensure durability.
Hair on hide:
Hair on Hide is a sumptuous texture, with the hair of the cowhide as a feature of the design. Much like natural leathers, hair on hide has a natural beauty but it can also be dyed, embroidered or embossed to create design interest.
A selection of our designs have been heat embossed, this process presses down on the leather or hide to form a pattern, adding a textural dimension to the material used.
Khalique London utilises embroidery across our collections, this may be relief patterns, decorative detailing, all-over embroidery designs or hand embroidered bead, crystal or pearl encrusted embroidery. Khalique London works with skilled craftsmen in India to create intricate embroidery, which is often inspired by couture fashion detailing.
Many Khalique designs celebrate the ancient art of weaving, our designs often mix materials to create luxurious and innovative products, these include woven suede, leather woven with suede, suede and cashmere, silk and leather, velvet and leather, and leather and cashmere. Woven designs drape beautifully, and provide a soft and tactile surface.
Plisse is a term used to describe fabric or leather that has been treated to create a permanent crinkle, puckered or folded design; this technique can create textural interest or the appearance of a pattern by folding or pleating the leather or fabric and fixing in place with a heat treatment.
Are your cushions and pillows supplied as a cover or with a filler?
All Khalique cushions and pillows are supplied filled with a cushion or pillow inner. Each cushion is supplied with the inner inside the cushion ready to be placed in your home. Each cushion has a hidden zip, so cushion fillers may be removed for storing, or replaced as required.
